چکیده

The effect of comparatively small pressure changes on the composition of low pressure hollow cathode DC discharges is investigated with a combination of experimental diagnostic techniques and simple models of the plasma kinetics. The plasma precursors considered are H2, Ar/H2 mixtures, and air. In all cases, sudden characteristic composition changes are observed in the pressure interval between ≈ 0.5 and 3 Pa. Focusing the analysis on these distinctive changes has revealed most useful for the identification of key physicochemical processes in the various plasmas investigated.

Hollow Cathode Discharges - Analytical Applications

The low pressure glow discharges considered in this paper are the hollow cathode (Paschen), and the flat cathode (Grimm). Both discharges have similar voltage—current characteristics which are responsible for their radiation stability. The analytical sample is supplied to the discharge through a sputtering mechanism which provides a stable and non-selective source of particles. Some of the fund...

A Staggered-Mesh Finite-Difference Numerical Method for Solving the Transport Equations in Low Pressure RF Glow Discharges

A numerical model of a low pressure parallel plate rf glow discharge is presented based on a self-consistent formulation of the energy-momentum conservation equations for electrons, the continuity equations for both electrons and ions, and Poisson’s equation. Various explicit finite-difference numerical methods are discussed in terms of stability and overshoot properties. Stability consideratio...

Spectroscopic Characterisation of an Atmospheric Pressure Glow Discharge*

Recently there has been considerable interest in atmospheric discharges operating in a glow discharge mode i.e. with a spatial and sheath structure similar to that of low pressure glow discharges [1,2,3]. Here spectroscopy has been used to characterise an atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD), operating with either dry air, argon or helium gas flowing through the inter-electrode space and ...

Kinetics analysis of electrophoretic deposition using small signal and large signal modeling, Case study: Nano-Mullite suspension

Having sufficient and accurate understanding about kinetics of phenomena, could be an important reason for further technological progresses. Finding a white-box mathematical model for weight vs. time curves of Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) using large and small signal analysis has been studied thoroughly in the present investigation. Weight-Time curves of nano-Mullite suspension have been tr...

Mechanism of Improvement of Formability in Pulsating Hydroforming of T-shape Tubes

In this paper, the mechanism of improvement of formability in pulsating hydroforming of T-shape tubes is investigated by the finite element simulation and experiment. It is shown that local thinning was prevented by oscillating the internal pressure, because the protrusion is formed gradually by the prevention of sharp bulging. In the hydroforming, for the pulsating pressure, several steps occu...
